What comes to mind when you think of a hero— a soldier, an emergency responder, a special family member? What about a dog? That’s just who some soldiers serving overseas consider a hero, and thanks to The Puppy Rescue Mission (TPRM), the four-legged champions are coming home with them.
Many soldiers end up befriending dogs while stationed in Afghanistan and other war zones. These dogs do more than help alert and protect troops from the dangers of combat. They serve as loyal companions, offering soldiers a comfort of home and a sense of normalcy. When soldiers return home, leaving behind their battle buddy (who’s become a loved friend), can be devastating. The troops want nothing more than for their furry friends to be able to escape the conditions of war, and run and play and relax in a safe home. That’s where TPRM steps in.
The organization started out with one woman, Anna, as a fundraising mission to help bring home seven dogs who played an integral role in saving her fiancé’s life, and those of his comrades, by alerting him to a suicide bomber during a deployment in Afghanistan. Once the dogs were returned home safely, TPRM’s first operation was complete, but Anna didn’t stop there. She has continued her work to support soldiers who have served our country as well as the animals they love “who have been heroes in their own right” according to TPRM website.
The Puppy Rescue Mission has since become a full non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization working to reunite dogs contracted by the military directly with the human soldiers they served alongside, or by finding them safe homes when soldiers are not able to adopt the dogs themselves. So far TPRM has reunited 700 animals from overseas with servicemen and women at home.
Maggie, one of the 4Knines owners, comes from a military family and served 4 years in the Navy as a Corpsman. A charity that supports not only dogs, but the troops as well, is near and dear to her heart. That is why this month 4Knines is donating $200 to The Puppy Rescue Mission to thank them for their outstanding work. Each month, we’ll choose another worthy dog charity to donate to. Please consider donating to TPRM. You can donate by clicking here.
