I am always eager to learn different things and newly updated info when it comes to dogs or pets in general.
I often find myself on good 'ol Google doing research or just finding different fun facts so that I can not only learn, but share them with you guys!
So here goes...
15 More Awesome Fun Facts About Dogs:
- At least 70% of people sign their dog's names on greeting cards. I'll admit I am one of those people. But not only do I sign my dog's names, I sign for every pet in the house.
- Dogs have twice as many ear muscles as us humans do.
- Speaking of ears, a dog's hearing is also more than 10 times better than ours! Jeez... no wonder they can hear the neighbors opening a chip bag. ;)
- Many people even today, still believe dogs are color blind. This is not true. While they may not see color as well as we do, they are certainly not color blind.
- Our beloved dogs are mentioned in the bible. More than once.
- A lot of dogs will curl into a ball while they sleep. This comes from an old instinct to keep themselves warm and protected.
- If a man is attempting to get a girls phone number, he is 3 times more likely to get it if he is waling a dog at the time. *sigh*
- Dogs do get jealous! If you show affection towards another animal or even a human, and you think your dog is acting jealous... he most likely is.
- Bloodhounds can smell smells that are over 300 hours old! That would be like a gift and a curse all at once! ;)
- Dogs can be trained to detect changes in the human body. This is how specially trained dogs are able to help humans who have seizures and the like.
- Some dogs have webbed feet which make them great swimmers! Although some of those dogs don't even like to swim. Truth.
- Sweat glands and corn chips. Wait what? These two things have more in common than you think, in a weird way. Dogs sweat in their feet where the sweat glands are. If you smell your dog's feet on a hot day, you will most likely smell corn chips. Ewwww! Who wants chips?
- Whiskers are more than just super cute on your dog. They also act as sensors.
- Dogs can see much better than we can at night. "Dogs have good night vision, due in large part to the tapetum, a mirror-like structure which reflects light, giving the retina a second chance to register light that has entered the eye. This is also what makes dogs eyes glow at night." - Paul Miller
- Last but not least, it is said that at the end of the Beatles song "A day in the life," Paul McCartney recorded an ultrasonic whistle that only dogs could hear. He did this for his dog - a Shetland Sheepdog.
Heading back to number one for a second here. I am super curious, how many of you sign your pets names on greeting cards? No lie, I do this every card I send or write to people. My kids especially love it. I have a fair number of pets, and their names fill out the cards wonderfully. I think if my kids ever saw an empty card with only my name in it, they would be shattered! They like to feel like it's from the whole family. And our pets are our family.
So tell me, do you sign your pets names? Do you have any facts you would like to share as well? Leave them in the comments!
