Helping Every Animal League (H.E.A.L.) is a 501(c)(3) all‑volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals through community support and long‑term care initiatives. Founded in 2009 to assist the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter, H.E.A.L. began by providing essential equipment, food, and medical care for shelter animals—improving conditions and saving countless lives.
Building on that foundation, H.E.A.L. launched Chewy’s Red Ball Fund, a program that provides lifetime medical insurance for retired Police K‑9s throughout the Inland Empire. Law enforcement agencies cover veterinary care during active service, but once a K‑9 retires, all medical costs fall to the handler—often when the dog needs the most care. H.E.A.L. now supports more than 50 retired K‑9s, ensuring these loyal service animals receive the medical attention they deserve without placing a heavy financial burden on their families.
The Red Ball Fund was inspired by Chewy, a retired Police K‑9 whose courage and devotion continue to guide the mission of Helping Every Animal League. Chewy’s story embodies the heart of the organization—protecting those who have spent their lives protecting us. His legacy lives on through the many dogs now insured under H.E.A.L.’s care, including K‑9s from departments across Southern California such as San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Manuel. Each of these heroes—like K‑9 Timur, Lena, Arko, Draco, and Shadow—represents the strength, loyalty, and service that H.E.A.L. strives to honor every day.
H.E.A.L.’s mission reflects the same compassion and dedication that drive 4Knines—to improve the lives of dogs and those who care for them. 4Knines is proud to stand alongside H.E.A.L. in honoring these four-legged heroes.
