How to Choose the Right Kennel For Your Dog...

Have you ever had to go away on a trip but couldn't bring your pets?

Kennel Choosing Tips for a Better Place to Leave Your Pet Dogs I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't travel a lot, but when I do I prefer bringing my dogs with me, however sometimes that just isn't an option. So in that case, what do you do? The first thing I try and arrange, is to have family come to my house and watch my dogs while I am away. But. once again, that is not always an option. So when you're out of options and you just aren't sure who to leave them with or where, what do you do?

Lets Talk About Dog Kennels

Dog kennels seem to have a bad rep with a lot of people. But they aren't all bad. Sure, I won't deny that there are some kennels out there which happen to be way under par, but does that mean we should avoid any kennel, anywhere, any time? No, not in my humble opinion. There truly are some good kennels out there, but how do you go about choosing the right kennel for your dog? Let's woof about that for a minute. To me, leaving my huskies is like leaving my children for the first time, it is hard! They are my kids... with a little more fur than the human ones of course. When I was out of options and needed to turn to a kennel, I began searching the web for local kennels. There were a few that I found, but one in particular stood out to me. It just gave off a warm, happy, caring vibe. I decided to phone them. The lady I spoke with began by saying how much she loved huskies. At first I thought she was just saying that, and she probably says that about every breed, but she went on to say certain things about their behavior. She knew all about the breed. She knows they wouldn't do well in her small outdoor area because the fence would be too low, and huskies can jump them easily. Just little things like that already made me feel more comfortable. She had asked if they had any special needs she would be tending to, told me to feel free to send something of mine that has my scent on it, and she was just super friendly. I was invited out to meet her and see the place after she learned that I was a concerned paw-rent. So out I went! The place was nice and clean, there were several other dogs staying there. There was no poop in the yards. (meaning she cleans it well.) I saw how she interacted with the other dogs there. They loved her! She gives them treats, and they were all happy to see her when they saw her face. Also, she lives right there on site. I was convinced. I decided this was the right place for my fur babies. When I dropped them off, she made sure to ask if they had allergies or anything she should know, as well as making sure I had my vet papers, etc... She let me know it was ok to give her a call to check on them while I was away. Long story not so short, when we picked them up, the second they heard my voice, they started to howl, she let them out, and the joy and smiles on their faces was just beautiful!! I was thrilled to see that after they greeted me, my dogs went over to the lady and they were wagging their tails and asking for her attention, so I knew they liked her too!

What did I take out of this?

  • Go with your gut! If it doesn't feel right, it's not right.
  • Talk to the owners of the kennel, are they friendly? Do they seem like legit dog lovers?
  • Visit the facility. Is it clean? Are you welcome to visit the facility?
  • How do the other dogs react around the owners?
  • Do they ask if your dog has allergies or other things they?
  • Do they require vet papers?
All of these things are huge, for me at least. A kennel that requires vet papers, want to make sure the dogs coming in are healthy, and vaccinated. Make sure to check that the kennel is clean. Checking to see how the dogs who are already at the kennel act when the owner goes near them is huge as well. If they are happy to see them... good sign... if they seem scared or just not thrilled to see them... bad sign. Bottom line, a gut feeling tells you more than you think. Trust yourself. If you don't feel comfortable, that means you should keep checking for a better kennel. How about you? Have you left your dogs in a kennel, if so, how did you know it was the right kennel for you? EXCELLENT SEAT COVER

We liked the first cover so much that a few days later we purchased a second one. The cover installs very, very easily, fits and covers the rear seat and the back of the front seats of our Subaru Tribeca perfectly, has flaps that cover the door-side edges of the rear seat, and stays perfectly in place. Spilled or tracked water beads up on the material and can be easily wiped off. At first our dog did tend to slide just a little on the new cover, but he soon learned to stand, sit, and lay just as well as he did before on the uncovered seat. The hammock portion seems like it might provide some little bit of protection in a sudden stop (our guy will chew apart any "doggie seat belt" type of restraint in very short order - so that option is out of the question for us). As to keeping him out of the car front-area - well, our long-legged Standard Poodle has no problem in still looking closely out the front windshield by putting his front feet on the center console - straddling the hammock - with no problem whatsoever. But we did discover that having the hammock in place does allow us to safely keep his water bottle and dish, his leash, and an old towel on the floor under the hammock - where he can no longer get at them (especially the leash and towel) to chew on them. All in all, an excellent seat cover.

My furbabies don't like leather seats!!!! But they love this seat cover!!!

Very hard to find a split bench seat cover at a reasonable price, this one fit the bill. Easy to install, very durable and looks to be easy to clean. Wanted something that would protect the leather seats and was pet friendly (hate it when the material of regular seat covers snags toenails and collars). I don't think I will have to buy another for many years!!!

great cover

This is actually a replacement for my original 4 knines cover which was 4 years old. I used it daily (bringing my pup to work with me) and washed it weekly, so the backing finally started to flake apart and come off. This newer version is easier to put over the headrests, great improvement in the strap and closures. Also the best improvement is the side flaps, the old cover didn't have these. These flaps help to catch the dirt from dogs feet when they are jumping up into the car, instead of it going on the side of the seat.
