8 of the Most Dog-Friendly Cities for Active Canines

Taking our pets with us when we travel and even to the park for a daily romp is about as American as apple pie. Depending upon where we live in the good ole USA, some cities are simply more pet-friendly than others.

Dog-Friendly Destinations for Active Pet Dogs Pet-friendly locales are deemed such based on their number of dog parks, dog-friendly businesses, special animal events, the local cost of pet care, and the area's "walkability" rankings. Since exercising our dogs offers so many health benefits, you may well want to check out our list of eight of the friendliest cities when it comes to accommodating our four-legged friends:

#1 - San Diego, California

There's plenty of sand and surf for pets to enjoy in San Diego, which also is home to 16 off-leash dog parks where Rover can run and stretch his legs. With pleasant temperatures year-round, you and your dog can enjoy the beach, hit the hiking trails, go shopping in tandem, and dine out at many dog-friendly locations.

#2 - Portland, Oregon

This eclectic city has the most dog parks per capita of any town, for a whopping 33 of these green areas. While most are fenced and others may not be; however, they're all off-leash places for your dog to roam free. There are also a number of different licensed dog massage therapists and social networks specifically designed for pet lovers.

#3 - Seattle, Washington

Home of the iconic Space Needle, Seattle is also host to 11 off-leash dog parks, outdoor shopping venues that allow pets, and other dog-friendly environments disperse throughout the city. There are selected few ferry services that allow well-behaved, leashed dogs on board.

#4 - Chicago, Illinois

The windy city of Chicago has 18 dog parks that don't require pets to wear a leash and they also don't need a lead at Montrose Beach. At the Navy Pier, one of the city's biggest attractions, leashed dogs are allowed to wander about the outdoor common areas with their humans in tow.

#5 - Austin, Texas

This capital city also has 18 parks for dogs that don't need to be confined to their leash. If you're from out of town and want to see the sights, take your leashed dog along on a tour of the city. There's also "Austin Doga" or yoga for dogs for a relaxing exercise routine to enjoy with your pet in Texas.

#6 - Las Vegas, Nevada

Who would have thought that Sin City is also crawling with off-leash dog parks? With 25 of them located around the famous Las Vegas strip, there's also Dock Dogs where your pet can beat the heat of this desert oasis.

#7 - San Francisco, California

The City by the Bay and home of the Golden Gate Bridge is also privy to a plethora of pet pleasures. With over 50 parks and dozens of hiking trails, like Seattle, several San Francisco ferry services will allow leashed dogs on deck.

#8 - Orlando, Florida

While dogs aren't allowed at the many theme parks located in this sunny city, they're welcome at seven different off-leash dog parks. At the downtown farmer's market, they're welcome to shop with their owners while leashed. With plenty of parks and other pet perks, these towns have really gone out of their way to offer the best environment for our dogs. Did your city make the list? Cordura seat cover

Great product. Have them on all my seats to protect them from water sand and nails of from all the dogs that travel with me in my camper van to the beach, rivers and woods.

EXCELLENT SEAT COVER

We liked the first cover so much that a few days later we purchased a second one. The cover installs very, very easily, fits and covers the rear seat and the back of the front seats of our Subaru Tribeca perfectly, has flaps that cover the door-side edges of the rear seat, and stays perfectly in place. Spilled or tracked water beads up on the material and can be easily wiped off. At first our dog did tend to slide just a little on the new cover, but he soon learned to stand, sit, and lay just as well as he did before on the uncovered seat. The hammock portion seems like it might provide some little bit of protection in a sudden stop (our guy will chew apart any "doggie seat belt" type of restraint in very short order - so that option is out of the question for us). As to keeping him out of the car front-area - well, our long-legged Standard Poodle has no problem in still looking closely out the front windshield by putting his front feet on the center console - straddling the hammock - with no problem whatsoever. But we did discover that having the hammock in place does allow us to safely keep his water bottle and dish, his leash, and an old towel on the floor under the hammock - where he can no longer get at them (especially the leash and towel) to chew on them. All in all, an excellent seat cover.

My furbabies don't like leather seats!!!! But they love this seat cover!!!

Very hard to find a split bench seat cover at a reasonable price, this one fit the bill. Easy to install, very durable and looks to be easy to clean. Wanted something that would protect the leather seats and was pet friendly (hate it when the material of regular seat covers snags toenails and collars). I don't think I will have to buy another for many years!!!

great cover

This is actually a replacement for my original 4 knines cover which was 4 years old. I used it daily (bringing my pup to work with me) and washed it weekly, so the backing finally started to flake apart and come off. This newer version is easier to put over the headrests, great improvement in the strap and closures. Also the best improvement is the side flaps, the old cover didn't have these. These flaps help to catch the dirt from dogs feet when they are jumping up into the car, instead of it going on the side of the seat.
