5 Tips to Keep Your Pet Safe this Halloween

By JennaDrady. | Holidays

October is an exciting month. The trees are changing colors, the weather is nice and cool, and if you're Canadian, you get to celebrate Thanksgiving. (November for my American friends) But aside from that, October 31'st - one of my favorite holidays - HaLlOwEeN!

Halloween Tips to Keep Your Pet Dogs Safe and Happy I admit, I love Halloween. I love picking out costumes for my kids and my pets. I love taking them out walking around the neighborhood knocking on doors. I love the whole experience. BUT... for us pet owners, there is much more than just children to worry about on Halloween. There are some dangers that come with October 31'st when it comes to the safety of our pets, so today, I am going to share 5 tips to keep your pet safe this Halloween.

1. Candy/Chocolate

I can't stress this enough. Every year there are so many warnings saying how dangerous chocolate is for pets. Yet still every year dogs and cats are getting rushed to the vet because they found the stash of Halloween candy. Lets face it, it can happen to any of us. You know that whole better safe than sorry line? Don't underestimate your pet, and the length they may go to in order to find that candy bag. Just be on the safe side and keep it put high up where you KNOW there is no chance of an accidental candy bag burglary.

2. Halloween Means Lots of Kids Knocking on Doors All Night Long

It is best to keep your pets away from the door when you answer it. Some costumes might trigger a fear in your dog that you didn't even know they had. And it is quite easy for a cat to slip out while you are admiring the kiddies costumes. So best to keep your pets put in a different room for a few hours during Halloween night.

3. It Is Always Recommended to Leave Your Dogs at Home if You Have Kids of Your Own That You Will Be Accompanying on Halloween Night

I know it is tempting to put a little costume on your pooch and bring them door to door with you, but it really isn't the best idea. There are lots of scary things to a dog on Halloween. Not just the costumes, but those witches, skeletons and goblins people use to decorate. Especially the ones that make noise.

4. If You Use Candles in Your Jack-O-Lanterns, Make Sure Your Pet Cannot Get to Them.

You could be risking a burn, or some singed fur.

5. Finally, Do Not Leave Your Dog Out in the Yard During Halloween

People are cruel... and can do some pretty scary things during Halloween, so it is best to not leave your dog unattended. Halloween Tips to Keep Your Pet Dogs Safe and HappyHalloween for pets isn't all bad though. If you are out shopping for a costume for your pet, do your best to find something lightweight. Something your pet isn't going to mind too much. Don't keep their costume on for too long, and just keep their comfort at the top of your list. And while your pet won't be able to join your kids (and you) while muching out on Halloween goodies - there are some yummy Halloween treats you can find at your local pet store to include your pets in the fun. Great product!

Does exactly what we wanted. We can easily raise a part of the seat to give our dogs better access to the rear seat of our pickup. And it's easily removed or installed when we need to put humans back there!

Perfect gift

I purchased this rear bench cover for a friend with two dogs that frequently accompany her to her barn. No problem with wet, muddy feet. Fits well and protects her investment in her car. The cover arrived promptly as promised.

Quick delivery, easy install, great quality!

Our cargo cover got here quickly, took one minute to install, and has nice padding and looks like it will last. We have 3 big dogs so it will get a workout! We have a GMC Acadia and the fit is as close to custom as you can get.
