At the age of 15, Shadow was left tied to a tree outside an animal shelter with little chance of being adopted. Thankfully, a committed network of volunteers saved Shadow from spending his final days locked in a lonely cage.
Touched by the plight of this grey bearded dog, Cody Rackley and Jill Anderson welcomed Shadow
to their family where he spent his remaining days enjoying life on their ranch.
For the next 1 ½ years, Shadow's pure joy for life touched all who knew him. After Shadow passed from this world at the age of 16, Jill and Cody started Shadow's Fund
. The mission
of this nonprofit group was to help senior dogs spend the final chapters of their lives in loving homes
. Over time, the mission broadened to include other at-risk shelter dogs
including pit bulls and dogs who are passed over for adoption because of a treatable illness or injury.
Shadow's Fund applauds the valiant efforts of various rescue groups who are trying to find homes for senior and at-risk dogs. But for many of these dogs, time is the one thing they do not have.
With this in mind, Shadow's Fund opened the doors to the Sheltering Oak Sanctuary
, a safe haven for pit bulls and senior dogs in need of a second chance. Situated on 100 acres in Santa Barbara County, California, this one of a kind sanctuary that provides immediate relief, a nurturing and positive environment, and a vision for long term change.
Shadow's Fund is also working to reduce the population of pit bulls found in local shelters
by tackling the problem where it begins... in backyards around the community. They launched Bright Beginnings: Pit Bull Puppy Ambassador Program
which places at-risk dogs into foster homes where they are trained and socialized, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. When puppies graduate from the program, they are deemed young breed ambassadors and are placed in carefully screened homes. Puppies are given a bright beginning, so the breed will have a brighter future! You can follow your favorite puppy ambassadors on Facebook
Each month, 4Knines

in their community. In addition to adopting or fostering
an eligible dogs, there are many ways to help including making cash donations, purchasing dog food, volunteering, sponsoring an at-risk dog

Shadow's Fund is dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of senior dogs and dogs labelled "pit bulls". To bring hope to those who have none, to see the downhearted and defeated experience joy again, and to remind the forgotten dogs that they are loved and their life is precious... that is our mission.
