Giving Back to the Community - January Spotlight on National Mill Dog Rescue

By 4Knines Staff. | Giving Back
34 National Mill Dog Rescue January Spotlight on National Mill Dog Rescue On a spring day in 2013, Lizzy walked outside for the first time. She had spent the last 12 years of her life locked in cage, being made to breed over and over. Lizzy was a puppy mill mom rescued by the National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR) who finally got to feel grass under her paws with a loving family by her side. Sadly, there are thousands more dogs like Lizzy still waiting for that chance, and that's why NMDR was founded. A puppy mill, often called a puppy farm, is a commercial dog breeding operation that places profit over the well-being of its dogs"”who are often severely neglected. NMDR was founded in an effort to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome discarded breeding dogs and to educate the general public about the cruel realities of the commercial dog breeding industry. Without the help of NMDR, the dogs it rescues would be facing death. Since its inception, NMDR has rescued thousands of dogs, providing medical care, love and finding them forever homes. NMDR was established in honor of an Italian Greyhound named Lily. Theresa Strader, NMDR's Founder and Executive Director, rescued Lily from a dog auction in Missouri. Prior to that day, Lily had spent the first seven years of her life as a commercial breeding dog. She had received little to no veterinary care throughout her life, no dental care, poor quality food, and rabbit bottle watering. The result: the roof of Lily's mouth and lower jaw, had rotted away, and her chest was riddled with mammary tumors. She was also absolutely terrified of people. Strader adopted her and cared for her for 15 months before she passed away. As of 2012, NMDR had amassed over 1,300 volunteers and had rescued more than 8,400 puppy mill survivors. Run almost solely by volunteers, NMDR has pledged to put an end to the cruelty of the puppy mill industry. Through widespread informative efforts, NMDR hopes to educate the public to acquire their companion animals through reputable breeders or better yet, from shelters and rescue groups across the country. As of today January 30 th 2015 they are deploying on their mission to travel almost 2,000 miles to rescue more than 100 dogs in three states from puppy mills. 4Knines is donating $200 to National Mill Dog Rescue to thank them for their outstanding work. Each month, we'll choose another worthy pet charity to donate to. Please consider donating to NMDR. To donate click here. Great product!

Does exactly what we wanted. We can easily raise a part of the seat to give our dogs better access to the rear seat of our pickup. And it's easily removed or installed when we need to put humans back there!
