7 Dog Books That Improved My Relationship With Dogs

By SamanthaRandall. | Dog Training

I love reading. I can sit and read all day, especially when there's a vast amount of articles and information available online. One of my ways to procrastinate is to get on the Internet, and just start surfing favorite topics.

Dog Books to Help You in Training and Loving Your Dogs

When I browse, one thing leads to another, and in a few hours I'm on a subject that's nowhere near the topic that I started with. That could be a good thing and a bad thing, which is why I often choose books over the deep labyrinths of the internet. It's also the reason why I'm still subscribing to magazines; it's much easier on my attention span. For a long-time dog owner like me, books related to dogs are by far one of my favorites. Anything from canine health and nutrition, to novels and photography books that involve my favorite animal will keep me glued to the book all the way to the end. Here are seven books that that have impacted and improved my relationship with dogs:

Dog Books: A Dog's Guide to Humans by Karen Davison1. A Dog's Guide to Humans by Karen Davison

This funny little book is an easy read. Ever since I read it, when my dogs are doing something strange, I have to wonder if they're trying to train me. My dogs have the genes of herding dogs. One of them likes to cut in front of me while I am trying to walk through the house. After reading this book I have to wonder if he's trying to hear me. He might be trying to train me into going where he wants me to go instead of where I need to go. When you read this book, keep in mind that you may never look at your dog's behavior the same again.

I picked this book up thinking that it would just be a funny read. A lighthearted story to end my day with. What I ended up getting was a real tearjerker, but only in the best way possible. This book really showed me that dogs are a lot like humans. Sometimes, their personality will only change if they want it to. Like your kids, they don't always do what you think is right, no matter how you train them. This book highlights the unconditional love and loyalty that dogs will show their owner, if their owner will only show them the same.

Yes, this book is basically a kid's book, but my mom came across it when she was at work and picked it up. We like to read kids book sometimes as they are an easy, simple read that doesn't require a lot of thought. We were not disappointed. This book shows that a dog can really be your best friend, and get you out of your comfort zone. It doesn't matter what the dog looks like. So many people get a dog based on looks alone, but this story shows the best dog you can get may be that scraggly mutt that nobody else wants. It's also a great family book to read to your children at bedtime.

This is another book that helps you see things from the dog's perspective, but on a more serious note. It shows you how to approach your dog as you really are - a whole different species. It gives you suggestions to modify your body language and training techniques, so that you will have a more rewarding relationship, for both you and your fur baby. Although it does not go through the technicalities involved with dog training, it is an indispensable book that will change the way you interact with your dog forever.

This is a very educational book. It is a must-read for all dog lovers. When I read this book I was able to put to rest a lot of those myths that I had heard in my life about dogs. This book is written by a scientist, and gives you the facts of what your dog sees, what he smells, and how he thinks. It is an insider look at the reason that dogs do the things that they do. It will forever change the way you look at your canine companion, how you interact with dogs, and how you train dogs. I know it did for me.

If you only read one book before picking up your puppy, this is the book you should read. This book will show you how to deal with your puppy in the first three months of his life so that you can form a bond that will last a lifetime. It shows you how to begin training in the most efficient way possible. You get an inside view of what your puppy is thinking through every growth stage. The Monks of New Skeet also have other books to continue your growing bond with your pup throughout the rest of his life.

This book is perfect if you like a no-frills approach to dog training. It will take you through the life stages of a dog, telling you what he needs to be learning at each stage. This book takes out all the guesswork. It presents things in a clear and logical way that is easy to follow. If you want to just read a book that's going to simply teach you how to train your dog, then this is the one for you. Without a lot of sappy personal stories, this book helps you to help your dog be the best that he can be at any stage of his life. Puppy misadventure

My 8 month old lab puppy ate something and it required a trip to the vet. They administered peroxide to induce vomiting. He seemed unaffected by the entire experience and after waiting 45 minutes with no results, we were sent home. Naturally, he threw up in the car on the way home. I had recently bought the split rear seat cover. It saved the back seat of my car and cleaned up beautifully. I can only imagine how the cloth seat would have absorbed the odor and stain without the protection of the seat cover. Buying your seat cover was the smartest decision I've made. Love the hammock option.

XL rear seat hammock cover

I own a 2015 Toyota Tundra CrewMax. I was concerned that the XL seat cover wouldn't be big enough for our pups. However, after installing it easily, our pups took to it immediately! Ellie loved the hammock part that comes off the seat a little and slept in it on one of our most recent road trips.

Perfect Fit!

We had fallen back to just putting a sheet over our seats as our Bernese Mountain Dog and our cars never found a perfect match with any of the seat covers we tried until this front seat cover. We immediately put in an order for the backseat cover from 4Knines to give our BMD more room.

Customer Service

I ordered a dog cover for my rear seat. When I placed it, one of the straps was not holding tight so I sent an email to the company that day. I received an immediate response and an immediate replacement. I was so impressed! I love the no hammock cover. It's perfect!
