5 Cleaning Tips Every Dog Owner Must Know

By 4Knines Staff. | Dog Info Dog Health

Muddy paws, stained carpets, furry sofas, stinky floors. Every dog owner is familiar with at least a few of these messy crime scenes!

Cleaning Tips to Help Clear Dog Mess

During colder months, our dogs tend to spend a little more time inside. With more inside time, comes more messes. Luckily, there are several simple cleaning tips and tricks to that can help minimize the havoc your furry friends track into your home during the fall.

1. Clean Up Carpet Stains

Start by wiping up the initial mess with a paper towel. Make sure the area is dry before continuing to the next step. Mix about a teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with a cup of warm water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle, then spray the affected area. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wash the area dry with warm water.

2. Remove Scratches from Wood Flooring

Happy paws aren't always friendly to your wood flooring! This quick trick will be sure to save you some time and worry next time your pup accidentally scratches your wood floors or furniture. All you need is a walnut to fix wood scratches in a pinch. Just rub the walnut into the wood in a circular motion. Afterwards, use a soft piece of fabric or cloth to polish the area.

3. Neutralize Stinky Dog Odors

Does your home smell a little too much like your dog? A simple vinegar and water solution will do wonders! Fill a spray bottle halfway with water and halfway with vinegar. Spray the area and let it dry. The vinegar will help neutralize odors, instead of simply covering them up. This solution works on fabric, carpet, and hard surfaces.

4. Wipe Away Fur From Fabrics

Dog hair can collect just about anywhere: couches, car seats, carpets, bedding, you name it! One quick way to remove fur from fabrics requires only one tool: a rubber glove. Put on a rubber glove, then get it slightly damp. Use the glove to collect fur from fabrics and upholstery. If you're working with a lot of fur, try using a squeegee to collect the fur instead.

5. Use Covers to Protect Bedding and Upholstery

At the end of the day, many messes are inevitable. Long-haired dogs will shed, muddy paws will leave prints, and stinky odors will accumulate between baths. That's why the best solution to messes is prevention! Next time you take your dog on a visit to vet, park, or local trail, make sure you are using a durable 4Knines Car Seat Cover. These washable covers will prevent mud stains, claw marks, unwanted bugs, and dirt from finding permanent residency in your car. Back at home, make sure your dog is equipped with a washable 4Knines Dog Bed Cover to prevent odor, fur, and moisture from accumulating on your dog's bed. In fact, frequent washing of your dog bed cover can help reduce many dog odors in your home and keep your pup comfortable all year long. As rainy and snowy weather invites all kinds of new messes, it's important to take the right steps to prevent permanent doggie damage in your home and car. Well Done!

Bought the seat cover for a rental SUV we were using on a road trip. It worked great. Kept off all the dog hair and our fur baby rolled around on it like crazy. Am going to move it to our everyday SUV. Nicely done!

Puppy misadventure

My 8 month old lab puppy ate something and it required a trip to the vet. They administered peroxide to induce vomiting. He seemed unaffected by the entire experience and after waiting 45 minutes with no results, we were sent home. Naturally, he threw up in the car on the way home. I had recently bought the split rear seat cover. It saved the back seat of my car and cleaned up beautifully. I can only imagine how the cloth seat would have absorbed the odor and stain without the protection of the seat cover. Buying your seat cover was the smartest decision I've made. Love the hammock option.

XL rear seat hammock cover

I own a 2015 Toyota Tundra CrewMax. I was concerned that the XL seat cover wouldn't be big enough for our pups. However, after installing it easily, our pups took to it immediately! Ellie loved the hammock part that comes off the seat a little and slept in it on one of our most recent road trips.

Perfect Fit!

We had fallen back to just putting a sheet over our seats as our Bernese Mountain Dog and our cars never found a perfect match with any of the seat covers we tried until this front seat cover. We immediately put in an order for the backseat cover from 4Knines to give our BMD more room.
