We love taking our dogs on vacation! During the recession, a lot of Americans rediscovered the joy of taking vacations closer to home, and more of those trips included the family dog, too. Taking your dog on vacation with you can be a lot of fun for both of you! Before you install a dog seat cover from our store and hit the road, though, you’ll want to make sure your dog is ready for hotel life. Hotel living isn’t the same as living at home, and you’ll want to help make their stay as comfortable as possible.
Check out these tips to help make your dog welcome in (almost) any hotel:
- Make sure you check out the hotel’s pet policy. While more hotels are welcoming four-legged guests, not every hotel will allow them. Find out what their policy is and if there are any additional fees. This will start you off on the right foot with the hotel staff.
- Bring a crate. You might not use one at home, but it’s a must on the road. A crate allows your dog a safe place to hide out if the different surroundings start to stress him out, and you can lock him up when you leave the room. That’s for your dog’s safety as well as the hotel staffs, since they may need to come into the room to clean while you are gone.
- Don’t forget her favorite toy or blanket. A favorite item from home can be a big comfort to a dog in a new environment! Unpack it right away so she can enjoy it in this new place.
Most dogs do great at a hotel and enjoy the stay! Remember to give them a lot of exercise during your stay, since the living space is probably going to be smaller than they are used to living in. Plus, plenty of exercise means there is less energy to destroy hotel property. If that happens, report it immediately, and be prepared to pay for it. Most importantly, though, relax! Enjoy this special time with your pet.
