Alexandria loves hanging out on patios. Henry Higgins loves naps. Lenny loves sandwiches. Marco loves trampolines. Penny love learning new tricks. The pups available for adoption through Streetdog Foundation are beautifully photographed and profiled on the foundation’s website.
These dogs are not placed with new families on a first-come, first-served basis. At Streetdog Foundation, a Memphis-based nonprofit, the primary goal is to find a perfect fit for both the dog and the household.
The Streetdog Story began in 2009 when founders, Melanie and Kent Pafford, received a frantic phone call from a Memphis area rescue who was desperately trying to locate a rescued Pit Bull, Thurman, who had escaped and could not be found. Melanie and Kent offered to help by searching the Memphis Animal Services, where Pit Bulls were typically euthanized within three days (an improvement to a previous policy which ordered the immediate euthanasia of “bully” breeds). Their heartbreaking experience inspired Melanie and Kent to dedicate themselves to finding forever homes for the stray and abandoned dogs and cats of Memphis area.
Since that transformational day, Streetdog Foundation has rescued more than 650 dogs. While encouraging responsible pet ownership, the foundation works to educate the public about the benefits of dog ownership – especially misunderstood breeds! The Streetdog Foundation partners with a network of local rescue organizations and volunteers to place special pets in their forever homes. When pups are successfully placed, a Happy Tails celebration is in order!
Without a dedicated structure to house their rescues, Streetdog Foundation is 100% dependent on volunteers to continue the great work they are doing.
We hope you will consider joining 4Knines in supporting the worthy efforts of Streetdog Foundation. There are SO many ways to help! Please check out their opportunities to become a volunteer or a foster family (short term, long term, and day trip opportunities available). You may also make a financial donation, purchase an item from their Amazon Wish List, or visit the Streetdog Shop. Let’s help Streetdog Foundation honor their commitment to finding loving homes for their pups.
