Car Rides With Your Pup Don’t Have to Be So Ruff

In our most recent blog, we discussed ways you can keep you and your dog safe while you are on the road. Since then, some of our readers have asked us for some advice on how they can help their pups become more comfortable with and enjoy their car rides.

Car Rides and Traveling With Your Pet Dogs: How to Make It Easy…

While every dog is unique and handles traveling differently, we have a few tips and tricks that might help make traveling a little more comfortable for you and your pup.

1. Make it Fun

Making your dog comfortable with car rides all starts when they are young. Of course you will be driving your new puppy to his first vet appointments however, it is important to also take him on fun and exciting trips. If you take your new pup to the park or on a hike, he will start to associate car rides with having fun.

During these first trips, it is not only important to go to fun places, but it is also important that you make the actual ride as pleasant as possible. Don’t play the music too loudly and be sure to talk to your pup if they seem nervous or on edge. Just talking to him can help put him at ease.

3. Bring Toys

Even though your first trips with your puppy may be shorter, bringing along his favorite toy can do a lot to help comfort him. It can also help keep him preoccupied so he is not so focused on this new and unusual experience.

These tips may not work for every dog. As we mentioned before, every dog is different, but the key to making any dog feel comfortable while traveling is to make it as fun as possible. If you only ever drive your dog to the vet, he will never look forward to taking a trip. So, make sure to make the next trip you take with your pup fun and entertaining and don’t forget to grab your dog seat cover!
