This is a magical time of year when temperatures have cooled off but winter storms haven’t settled in yet. The weather is absolutely perfect for going on a hike with your canine best friend! Grab one of our car seat covers for dogs to protect your seats and head out to explore one of our favorite fall trails:
- Cook Forest State Park, Cooksburg, PA
This old-growth forest will dazzle you in the fall! Plenty of crunchy leaves to stomp through and dog-friendly trails to keep you busy for days. There are over 30 miles of trails in this state park, and your dog can go on each and every one. Some of the trails have swaying bridges over small streams, so if your dog doesn’t feel like taking the bridge let him run through the water.
- Wenatchee National Forest, WA
If you drove to Mount Rainier National Park are were disappointed to discover your pooch wasn’t welcomed, head to this nearby national forest. Dogs are allowed off leash to enjoy a hike with their humans. American Lake Trail is especially beautiful during the fall, if you are up to the 13 mile round trip trek (your dog most certainly will be!).
- St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, St. Marks, FL
Dogs aren’t allowed in national parks because they disturb the wildlife. Believe it or not, they are allowed in many wildlife refuges! This refuge is home to 300 species of birds, so this is an especially good trip for the bird lover. Fall weather won’t have much of an impact on the area, except temperatures will be much more pleasant than a summer visit would get you. Your dog can enjoy over 50 miles of trails and old logging roads here.
