Are Two Dogs Twice the Fun?
Have you thought about adding another dog to your family? It is not a decision to be made lightly. There are several things to consider before making a lifetime commitment. I love having two dogs, but it is not for everyone.
Here are a few things to think about before adding the pitter patter of four more paws to your home.
- Does your current dog enjoy playing with other dogs? You don’t want to become a referee instead of a pet parent. Scheduling a meet and greet with both dogs can be extremely beneficial before making a final decision.
- Do you have plenty of room for two dogs? Dogs are going to play chase and wrestle. They need some space where they can just be dogs. Size matters.
-
Are you financially able to add another dog to the family? Consider food, vet bills, heartworm/flea preventatives and supplies. Twice the dogs = twice the expense.
-
Do you have the time to commit to two dogs? That includes feeding, training, grooming, playing and taking them for walks. Two dogs also mean twice the poop you’ll have to scoop!
-
Would you be bringing home a puppy or an adult dog? I don’t have to tell you that puppies are A LOT of work! They are precious, but an older dog might be less likely to wreak havoc in your house.
If you have answered these questions and feel confident, then congratulations! You are ready to bring home another best friend. I cannot imagine having only one dog. My personal experience living with two dogs has been extremely positive. I highly recommend it if it suits your lifestyle.
