Often when we think of the great state of Arizona, we might picture the amazing Grand Canyon, which runs through this arid, yet beautiful landscape.
Also well known for the desert climate that exists here, some pet owners might not know that dogs are welcome inside this National Park with a couple of notable exceptions:
- They must remain on leash at all times
- They’re only permitted on the trails above the rim
There’s a kennel available near the south rim to temporarily house your dog while you go on your adventures through the breathtaking sights of the Grand Canyon and the surrounding areas.
Speaking of surrounding locations, unless your animal suffers from Canine Vestibular Apparatus (the fancy medical term for doggie motion sickness), there’s plenty of great destinations and excellent vacation opportunities to discover in Arizona for you and your pet.
Here’s six sensational sites that you can enjoy with your four-legged best friend in this sunny state:
This area is part of the Arizona State park system and offers some amazing views and venues similar to that of its grand, national cousin. Similar to the canyon’s restrictions, dogs must be leashed and aren’t welcome near the slippery rocks (where the park gets its name), but they’re still able to traverse all the other areas inside this breathtaking rec area.
While our first popular location has leash restrictions in place, but at Echo Mountain, part of the City of Phoenix recreational park system, dogs are able to run free inside this arena. There’s fenced areas available that separate the bigger dogs from the smaller ones, plenty of shade trees and benches here for humans and their canine companions to enjoy the Phoenix summer sunshine.
Obviously sponsored by this animal-friendly chain of pet stores, their dog park is not only handicap accessible, it is also home to separate areas for big and small dogs to enjoy their own space inside fenced arenas that cover over two-and-a-half acres of grassy-covered landscape.
A reviewer at Tripadvisor.com gave this spot a “five woof” rating for this off-leash venue for our four-legged friends to frolic. Similar to the PetSmart facility, this venue offers separate, fenced locations for larger and smaller mutt to mingle.
This is a great place to take your dog for a daily walk on a well-maintained trail that’s lined with trees and has a number of watering spots to stop for a cool drink. Bring your leash and a dish for your dog to drink from while meandering down this path.
If hiking is your game, Camelback Mountain is the destination for you and your dog to take a more challenging stroll. In the center of Phoenix, you and your leashed pet are welcome to enjoy the great outdoors here in this beautiful atmosphere.
If you live in Arizona or are thinking of visiting this sun-drenched state, be sure to bring along your best friend and visit some of these popular and stunning destinations. Your dog will thank you and both of you can get some exercise while enjoying a warm day outside.
