2. Do not allow your children to interact with the dog while they are eating or chewing a bone.
3. Your children should be taught that if the family dog is asleep, he/she needs to be left alone.
4. It is important for your child to understand it may not be safe to pet a dog who they are not familiar with. (ie: While outside playing or going for a walk, do not walk up to someone who is out walking their dog, and just start petting that dog.) Permission needs to be granted by the dog's owner, as well as the child’s parents. Should permission be granted, the child should be taught how to properly approach a dog on a leash.
