6 Tips to Help Prepare Your Pup for Fall

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer. Vacation is over, kids are back in school, and temperatures will soon begin to drop.

6 Tips to Help Prepare Your Pup for Fall While September and October are usually mild, it is still a great time to prepare your dog for the cool weather to come. Here are six tips to help your dog transition smoothly, happily, and warmly from summer to fall.

6 Tips to Help Prepare Your Dog for Fall

1. Grooming, Out With the Old in With the New

If your dog requires professional grooming, September is a great month for a quick trim. Get rid of the summer fluff before it gets cold and your dog needs extra winter fluff. Some dogs also naturally shed their summer coat in preparation for their winter coat. Brush daily or weekly as needed.

2. Water, Yes, Please

Just because it is not as hot outside doesn't mean your dog needs less water. Dogs need water to stay healthy and hydrated all year long.

3. Beds, Blankets, and Sweaters, Oh My

September is a great time to assess your dog's winter wares and fill in the gaps where needed. Wash doggie sweaters, blankets, and winter beds. Some breeds (in some states) may even need sweaters or extra blankets starting in October.

4. Fleas and Ticks, They Are Still Here!

Flea and tick season can last into late fall, which is why so many vets recommend year round protection. Fall is also the time when mice and other critters, (who carry all kinds of creepy crawly things) start looking for some place warm to spend the winter. Make sure your dog is protected from all unwanted guests.

5. Heat Vents and Air Ducts. Need Love (And Cleaning), too

If you have forced air, get your vents and ducts vacuumed out in September to avoid the last minute winter rush. Annual cleaning removes allergens, dust and fur, which often accumulate big time in vents and ducts. While you are at it, replace the filter on your furnace. You and your dog will both benefit and breathe easier.

6. Holiday Travel, Plan Ahead

It's never too early to plan for the holidays and book a pet sitter if you need one. Whether your dog loves hiking in the woods, swimming in the lake, or even napping in the shade, be sure to plan a few end-of-summer adventures that you will both enjoy. Make it fun, memorable and fabulous! Have some other tips? Please share in the comments below. Rear Bench Seat Cover

I have purchased several seat covers from area pet stores and have returned them. I love the one I got from 4Knines because it was easy to install, it's shaped just like the bench seat in my car, its nice looking and it doesn't slide around. I have a large dog and a medium sized dog and the cover stays put! Thanks, 4Knines!

Seat cover

We have 2 big dogs and an hour and a half trip to the lake house. The lab sheds black hair everywhere on the tan leather, the Goldendoodle but he has long nails and left little holes in the seat of the car I had before. Got the new car and immediately ordered your cover, it came in quickly, was easy to install and saved the new car lots of damage. Love it! Recommend it highly!

Very well made

Recently purchased the waterproof bed liner. Very happy with the quality workmanship and that the material is soft and doesn‰Ûªt make noise when shifting positions.
